Amazon DVD Sale - lots of cool stuff I love!

December 9, 2008 – 8:05 pm

This is a bit of a wish list, but also an info alert for any of you who might be looking to buy stuff like this (AKA I don’t want Smallville, but I know a lot of people who like it, so I’m linking to the dvd sets):

The Flash
The Complete Series for $31.99
This show was on CBS for one season. It was my favorite show for YEARS. I loved it. It was dark and way ahead of its time. CBS bounced it around the schedule, so it didn’t get the ratings it deserved. AWESOME! BUY IT!

Wonder Woman
The Complete Collection for $45.99
This set is all three seasons of the Lynda Carter show from the 70s.

Space Ghost: Coast to Coast
Volume One for $8.49, Volume Two for $8.49, Volume Three for $8.49
Trading emails with the creative team for this show is one of my fondest memories of college. (Yes, I am a nerd. What of it?)

Scooby Doo, Where Are You?
Seasons 1 and 2 for $20.49

Metalocalypse
Season One for $12.99, Season 2 for $20.99
I haven’t seen this, but it looks like it’s right up my alley.

Rick & Steve “The Happiest Gay Couple In All The World”
Season 1 for $11.49
A friend works on the show, so I will personally vouch for the quality of the puppets.

Absolutely Fabulous
Seasons 1-3 for $32.99, Season 4 for $18.49, Season 5 for $18.49, The Last Shout for $11.49
I hated this show when I first started watching it. Now I love it, sweetie darling! It’s fricking hilarious.

Seth Green needs to marry me. It can be an open marriage; I don’t care.

James Bond Ultimate Edition box sets
Volume 1 for $31.49
(The Man with the Golden Gun / Goldfinger / The World Is Not Enough / Diamonds Are Forever / The Living Daylights)

Volume 2 for $31.49

self portrait 2008

November 22, 2008 – 9:17 pm

I took it this way so that my gargantu-jaw ™ isn’t visible. (Really, it was cold in my apartment, and I had the sweatshirt on, then I got the idea to take a pic of myself, and I couldn’t be bothered to do anything but stand in front of my camera after it took me five minutes to figure out how to work the timer on it.) (Because do you honestly think I wouldn’t have tried to figure out a way to hide my Leno-esque chin while covering my jaw?)

I didn’t want it to look too much like a MySpace webcam pic, so I didn’t look directly at the camera. However, this created a very unintentional occurrence of the dreaded Emo Portrait.

the promised photos

October 28, 2008 – 11:29 pm

Here are two photos that I took on Saturday. There are 43 more in a set on flickr. If you click on one of the pictures, you’ll be taken to the set.

I left my sister’s an hour and a half ago.

October 25, 2008 – 3:47 pm

It’s a three minute drive.

I decided to see if the arboretum trees had started turning yet (they have), then after wandering there for a while, I made a quick trip to the local cemetery because old tombstones were an art, and when everything is wet and dreary with leaves on the ground, that makes for good photography.

I’ve been in a bit of a slump, not really taking many pictures, and when I do take them, I don’t bother to post them.

I took about 350 pictures today. It felt good.

It felt good to go walk where the only noise was the wind rushing through the trees. There was an occasional chitter from the army of squirrels in the arboretum, as well. If it wasn’t so chilly out, I could have stayed for much longer.

I will be sure to post a couple of the pictures here once I go through and find which ones I want to upload.

This feeling is good: Peace.

fifteen dollars of pumpkins

October 19, 2008 – 10:12 pm

This is what fifteen dollars worth of pumpkins looks like. The smallest sized one would have been $4.98 at walmart. Buying locally RULES!

“Charisma and advertisements “

September 22, 2008 – 10:15 pm

Now that I have cable and high speed internet again, I am finally able to enjoy things I’ve been missing out on for the last six or so years. One of those things is the tv show Supernatural.

It is like a group of people sat down at a table and asked, “What would Barb want to watch on tv?”

The result is this tv show. I love every last thing about it, from the eyecandy leads to the violence and horror plots, all of the X-Files alumna who are part of it, and the KICKASS music.

It’s perfect.

I hate being so late to the game watching it, though. I generally frown upon mainlining tv series like I’m doing right now because you don’t get any of the anticipation or suspense that came with viewing it live on television. Heck, I have enough of a problem with there not being any commercials on the dvds. No, I don’t want advertising, but those five minute breaks are part of the storytelling. When you’re sitting there watching it all at once, it loses a little something.

Mind you, that is not going to stop me from watching all of the episodes as quickly as I can because I love the show to pieces.

Double standard, table for one (two?)!

I’ve watched 8 episodes since Saturday night. I could get the first season done by next weekend, but the weather is supposed to be nice, so I am hoping I will have the willpower to enjoy the sunshine and 70s temperatures instead of watching tv shows on my laptop. (doubtful, but I’ll still hope)

Yes, We Can

September 20, 2008 – 9:17 pm

I procrastinate and have no discipline.

September 15, 2008 – 9:51 pm

But that’s why you love me, right?

- I have put off two projects until the last minute - personal projects, nothing for work - and I’m trying to get them done ASAP these days.

- I always mean to come here and post, but then I never do. I hate being lazy, but I also love it. I’m a walking contradiction, with this and many other things.

As of last Wednesday, I am an Auntie again! My newest little sweet pea is the cutest thing ever. EVER! Except for the first little sweet pea. And the real first little sweet pea from 13 years ago. I’m an aunt 7 times over now. I LOVE IT! Not only do I love them all so much, it also keeps the heat off me when my siblings pop out the kids. Mom has stopped putting the questions to me. I know she despairs because I’m probably not gonna ever settle down and have any kids of my own, but them’s the breaks.

BABY!

You guys, she is so adorable, I almost can’t stand it. Her little fuzzy head! It’s so soft! And just everything! She’s precious and beautiful and sweet.

My sister was in the hospital until yesterday with a couple of troubles, but she should be okay now. It’ll be a while before she’s top shape, of course, but she’s home and feeling a bit better.

That’s my news, in a nutshell. *insert Austin Powers scene here*

Bachelor Dinner 10pm

September 3, 2008 – 6:36 pm

I ate this last Thursday night. It was pretty good for a half-assed meal.

USA! USA! USA!

August 17, 2008 – 12:23 am

The US Men’s swim team was AMAZING! wooo Michael Phelps! wooooo Jason Lezak! That was some amazing competition.

Also, Dara Torres is, in my mind, the best swimmer ever. She is so awesome, I can’t even stand it. When she held up the semi-final heat so one of the other swimmers could go change a ripped suit, that cemented her status in my mind. She’s amazing.

My back went to shit last night, and I ended up eventually working up the fortitude to drive out to my mom and dad’s so I could get some help feeding myself and have someone rub my back and try to crack it. I can move now, quite a bit more than I was able last night. My neck is still fracked up a bit, along with my right shoulder, but! Last night I had to roll off the couch onto the floor on all fours and work my way up to standing over the course of a few minutes. Now it hurts a bit, but I can just stand up in a process of about ten seconds. Before, I couldn’t sit up because I couldn’t lift my head without putting my hands behind my head and pulling it forward. Now i can lift my head just using my neck muscles. BIG DIFFERENCE. (a big difference badly explained. sorry. I’m tired, sore, and still distracted by the olympics, even though the broadcast is over.)

Since I’m already discombobulated (i love that word), I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go take some vicodin and try to get some sleep. Monday morning is going to come too quickly.
